Back 2 Montreal

The Formula 1 season is making a big move.. all the way to MONTREAL, QUEBEC for the Canadian Gran Prix. On Wednesday i wrote:

For the rest of the season, I think it will somewhat be a fight between Raikkonen and Alonso… I think the McLaren-Mercedes drive will win in Canada and in the majority of the next few races to get closer to Alonso, but I still think Fernando Alonso will be the champion once the final lap in Shangai, China is over.

I still stand by that point, BUT in about 12 hours from now I think Michael Schumacher will take his first win of his devastating season. I know my writing is just DEJAVUE all over again .. but from how he drove the couse last year in Monteal, i seriously cant see him losing.

Formula 1 UPDATE + Calendario

So we are well into the 2005 Formula 1 season… now its obvious to us that Fernando Alonso’s dream start is not a fluke… he won AGAIN in the European Gran Prix last week on May 29th. Kimi Raikkonen from McLaren-Mercedes won the previous 2 straight Gran Prix’s which gives him a slim chance of taking the title. But … we are almost half done the season and with Fernando Alonso’s demanding lead and with the way he’s been racing (even when he didn’t win) it doesn’t look like he is going to slow down.

Going into the Canadian Gran Prix next week… “Strategy was the key to last year’s Canadian Grand Prix”(according to formula1.com) told by the former Driving Champions… Fernando Alonso has a 32 point lead over Kimi Raikkonen. But where is Schumacher? He seemed to be the expert in the Canadian track but this year he’s in 8th place with only 16 points and no victories. (xemico.com)

The rest of the Formula 1 season looks like this:

June 12, 2005 GP of Canada – Montreal

June 19, 2005 GP of USA – Indianapolis

July 3, 2005 GP of France – Magny-Cours

July 10, 2005 GP of Great Britain – Silverstone

July 24, 2005 GP of Germany – Hockenheim

July 31, 2005 GP of Hungary – Hungaroring

August, 21, 2005 GP of Turkey – Istanbul

September 4, 2005 GP of Italy – Monza

September 11, 2005 GP of Belgium – Spa-Francorchamps

September 25, 2005 GP of Brazil – Interlagos

October 9, 2005 GP of Japan – Suzuka

October 16, 2005 GP of China – Shanghai

For the rest of the season, I think it will somewhat be a fight between Raikkonen and Alonso… I think the McLaren-Mercedes drive will win in Canada and in the majority of the next few races to get closer to Alonso, but I still think Fernando Alonso will be the champion once the final lap in Shangai, China is over.

Kimi Raikkonen Wins in SPAIN

Kimi Raikkonen took the win yesterday putting an end to Fernando Alonso's 3 consecutive win streak... but he still finished in second... which still increased his lead.

This year, no one is winning except for Fernando Alonso.. he's got no competition .. when he isn't winning different people are always taking the title, Fischicella, Raikkonen, Trulli.. always different!

I've said countless times this year, that M Schumacher, aka SCHUMI will warm up this year and I even said in a earlier article that if he doesnt win by the Spanish Gran Prix, he isnt going to win the championship.. well he didn't.

Fernando Alonso will take the championship this year, dont be surprised, and dont expect a fairy tail finish by Michael Schumacher either.. they still have a shot, but its a slim one.

Only thing Ferrari can look forward to is winning the Constructor's table.. even though they are far behind, when Reubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher are hot they can win that table easily.

Schummi winning the drivers cup again... thats not gunna happen.

Schumacher comes second

The Calendario Formula 1 for Ferrari has no wins on it yet, but last week, michael schumacher 's battery charger was almost fully charged as he finished the event in Imola Italy in second place, his best finish of the 2005 Formula 1 season. M Schumacher could be beginning to race like his dynasty years in the past, he could be back, but theres a long way to go and lots of catching up to do.

Schumi will win next week, couldn't you see how much pressure Michael put on leader Fernando Alonso in the Imola Gran Prix? Its sick, M Schumacher is almost as good as he was last year, but just with a little bit of competition. The remaining formula 1 2005 schedule will have wins by Ferrari in more then half the events, M Schumacher RC still has a good chance at taking the title, AGAIN.

However the big winner of the first pit-stop round had been Michael Schumacher who had jumped ahead of Trulli, Webber, Villeneuve, Sato, Wurz and brother Ralf by staying out till the end of lap 28. It was quantum leap up the race order and a truly remarkable feat, made easier by Trulli's big train.

Then, what was even more phenomenal was Schumacher's pace on a full fuel load. On Lap 27 with empty tanks, he'd put in the Fastest Lap of 1:22.020. This is when F1 saw the raw potential of the F2005. Here are Schumi's lap times.

Lap 30 1:22.722
Lap 31 1:22.609
Lap 32 1:22.441
Lap 33 1:22.335
Lap 34 1:22.433

Schumacher wont throw in the towel

As of now, Michael Schumacher only has 2 POINTS, disappointed in anyone. He told reporters:

WORLD champion Michael Schumacher yesterday hinted he may stay in Formula 1 longer than expected.

The seven-time world champion has endured a miserable start to the season, claiming just two points from three races going into the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola this weekend. But that has not put Schumacher off the sport he has dominated for a decade and he has now suggested he would be willing to consider extending his stay at Ferrari.

Schumacher is contracted to Ferrari until the end of next season - when he will be 37 - and was widely expected to hang up his helmet then. But he yesterday admitted informal discussions had been held in private with Ferrari boss Jean Todt over the possibility of a new deal.

Schumacher said contract talks had already begun, but he insists he has yet to make up his mind on his plans for 2007 onwards. He said: "

I had a private chat, I am not in discussions. It’s quite open to me at what time I want to extend my contract. Any time I want to take the decision I can do so. I am happy right now. My love for the sport is so high I would like to continue but I don’t see any reason to fix myself too early."

I think Michael Schumacher should have retired last year, but I'm guessing he was hungry for another winning season.

Similar to Michael Jordan, now he left the game of basketball in peace, could it be the same for Schumacher? I think Michael Schumacher will be done after the 2006 season, the 2007 at the most, its even a stretch!

Same Old Schumacher NEWS

Again, Michael Schumacher is continuing to be confident in himself telling reporters that he's confident in winning his first Gran Prix in 2005. This time on Ferrari's home course:

"There is no doubt about this, our objective is to begin winning again and I think we have a good chance."

"The world championship, despite the opinion of some pessimists, has not yet been decided."

"For sure, the start of the season has not gone as well as we would have liked but from the outside the situation seems worse than it is in reality."

"We have had a lot of bad luck. In Australia, for example, I could have finished in the points if the weather had been better. I was also very hopeful in Bahrain."

"The race for the world title has not yet reached the decisive stage. The season is a long one and the classification can change."

Source SportingLife.com

Honestly, I guess I'm falling for Schumacher's comments but I still believe that he will win this week... its crazy, it has to happen eventually!!

MY PREDICTION: MICHAEL SCHUMACHER FINALLY TAKES THE WIN. (PLEASE)

Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso, could he be the next Michael Schumacher? So far this 2005 Formula 1 season, it may be true.

Fernando Alonso was born in Oviedo in the heat of Spain. Fernando Alonso began his career in Australia almost four years ago in 2001, and as of now, Fernando Alonso has NOT won any Drivers Championships.

GrandPrix.com
wrote an article on him saying:

Alonso's father built him a kart when he was only two years old but it was not until he was 13 that he was able to do any serious racing. He won the Spanish cadet national kart title in 1994. Two years later he won the World Junior Karting title and he continued in karts until 1999 when he moved into car racing in the Nissan Open series in Spain, driving for former F1 driver Adrian Campos's team. He won the title at his first attempt and then moved into Formula 3000 with backing from Telefonica. He raced for Team Astromega and won the Spa race and finished fourth in the series. He was signed to a management contract by Flavio Briatore and as a result was soon named as a Minardi test driver and in 2001 became the number one driver for the team, which had just been bought by Australia's Paul Stoddart. After an impressive first season Alonso took the decision to become the Renault test driver in 2002, in the knowledge that he would graduate to the race team in 2003. He joined Renault as expected and with the impressive R23 was able to well and won his first victory in Hungary in August. Since then he has been seen as one of the big names in the sport but success eluded him in the first part of 2004.

People will hear the name Fernando Alonso everywhere now. Fernando Alonso, Fernando Alonso that... his name is everywhere, and I think we will continue to hear the name Fernando Alonso for a long time, win or lose.

Formula 1 in India ?

According to Sify.com as the title says, India will host a track in Formula 1 by 2010. Heres what they wrote:

New Delhi: Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi on Tuesday said India was looking forward to stage a Formula 1 race by the year 2010 and would require six months to come up with the venue and a plan to stage the event.

''It's high time that we have a Formula 1 track in India.

Hopefully, we will have a Formula 1 race when we stage the Commonwealth Games in 2010,'' Kalmadi told newspersons here.

Mr Kalmadi said he had contacted Delhi and Maharashtra Chief Ministers and was also exploring the possibility of Bangalore being another option apart from from Delhi and Mumbai. ''Within the next six months we should decide on a place,'' he added.

Praising Narain Karthikeyan for reaching the F1 circuit, Kalmadi said ''the country is proud of sports icons like Narain Karthikeyan, Sania Mirza, Rayavardhan Singh Rathore and Anju Bobby Georgein.

''Its great to achieve so much of success, recognition and fanfare in a country obsessed with cricket,'' he noted.

In my opinion, Formula 1 is already an amazing, I dont think it can get better. If theres a new track in India, One of the current tracks must be discontinued, and theres where I disagree.

If they decide to add a new track, at least add it alone, dont get rid of any tracks. I also think if this actually happens, they should place the race either in the beginning of the Formula 1 season or in the end.

Overall, I dont think Formula 1 should do this, last week in Malaysia there were technical problems because of all the heat, I bet it would be even worse in India.

Renault to Maintain First

Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella and first place Fernando Alfonso have had a dream start to the 2005 Formula 1 season, something no one predicted.

Many still think, including myself that Ferrari will bounce back and take another title to add to their dynasty, but Renault’s chief test engineer Christian Silk told SportingLife.com according to this article at Sportal.com.au:

"Overall, we have completed a very successful week's work in Barcelona," he told sportinglife.com.

"The team made a big effort to bring our program forward, and we have had three dry, productive days' running."

"Fernando has experienced few problems and completed plenty of miles, working on promising tyre developments and exploring the car's set-up."

I'll give Ferrari a chance at the San Marino Gran Prix and the Gran Prix of Spain in Barcelona, if either Reubens Barrichello or the favored Michael Schumacher start winning races, Renault will very well take the 2005 Formula 1 season in my eyes.

Renault looks solid, I dont think can be done from what we have seen so far.

Ferrari Schumacher - Still Confident

According to Motorsport.com, Michael Schumacher is still confident that he will begin to race like a champion in previous years. I've said in the past for many weeks that Ferrari will bounce back, and according to Motorsport.com they think they will to:

Surprisingly, the reigning champion has only scored two points so far in 2005 and Ferrari has not been as competitive as predicted. But the team will surely bounce back from its problems and Schumacher is expecting that to happen quite soon.

But have all the Ferrari fans given up on Ferrari Michael Schumacher and Reubens Barrichello, some may have but from the many I've talked to including myself I STILL think Ferrari will win, either Schumacher or Reubens Barrichello.

Motorsport quoted Michael Schumacer in their article:

"I don't think that the missing points are impossible to catch up," he said. "It would be quite presumptuous to think that a single driver can win each and every race. I thought that to be impossible when it looked like I could do it last year and I think it will be impossible for someone else to do this year."

"The competitors won't let that happen. And neither will we. We will continue to stay focussed and work carefully to eliminate our weaknesses. And then I don't see any reason at all for us not to be highly competitive once again at the next race in Imola."

I think they wont win next week in the San Marino Gran Prix, but I think Schumacher and Reubens Barrichello WILL begin to put up competition starting in the Gran Prix of Spain in Barcelona on May 8, 2005.

2005 Formula 1 Season

Michael Schumacher is struggling, Reubens Barrichello is struggling, no one would have never guessed both successful Formala 1 drivers from past years would be in the middle of the table. Fernando Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella of the Renault Formula 1 team is currently on top of the Constructors table with Fernando Alonso takin the top in the Drivers table.

Some of my favorite Gran Prix's such as the Monaco Gran Prix and the Gran Prix in Magny-Cours, France have not began yet, with Jarno Trulli winning the Monaco Gran Prix last year, im sure the outcome will not be predictable. The 2005 Formula 1 season is just getting started, no one knows if Fernando Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella will retain their hot streak.

Anyway, thanks to xemico.com, here is the full schedule of the 2005 season, obviously next week isnt in Australia, start counting from the San Marino Gran Prix in Imola.

Renault's Comments

After this weekends Bahrain Gran Prix, Ferrari Seems to be struggling more and Renault are just getting better and better. Fernando Alonso finished first for the second consecutive time and for Renaults third first place finish.

Here is what the first place Renault team including the first place driver had to say: (source: Noticias.info)

Fernando Alonso, Winner “The R25 was perfect today, and the team has been fantastic all weekend, with no mistakes. To score 26 points out of 30 possible is brilliant, but we need to stay cautious: we have only done three races out of nineteen in a very long season. However, I think that if we stay competitive like we are, and if we can avoid mechanical problems, then we will be hard to beat.”

Giancarlo Fisichella, retired, lap 3
“It is normal that I feel extremely disappointed after retiring from a race where I could have scored a very strong result. The car felt great on the first lap, when I gained positions and felt like I could get even more. Then, the engine lost power and I was called into the pits to retire. I hope things will go better in Italy in three weeks.”

I agree with Fernando Alonso how he commented on how there are still lots of races to go. At this stage of the season, no one knows who will come out on top by the time the Chinese Gran Prix comes around.

McLaren's Comments

As I said in my previous post, Red Bull's and McLaren Formula 1 drivers commented on their qualifying results, heres what McLaren drivers Pedro de la Rosa and Kimi Raikkonen who finished 7th and 9th had to say:

Kimi Raikkonen 7th: "The lap started well, however I lost a lot of time in the final sector when I ran wide in the final corner. Finishing seventh was not ideal and means that I have some work to do in second qualifying and the race. However I am happy with the car and I expect more to come tomorrow."

Pedro de la Rosa 9th: "The track was very slippery as a lot of dust had blown onto the circuit during the break. Being the first driver out was a disadvantage, which was made worse by the windy conditions. However, I felt that the lap itself was good, and that we will be competitive tomorrow."

Red Bull's Comments

Thanks to Planet-F1.com, we can read the comments on the qualifying by Red Bull members Christian Klien and David Coulthard:

Christian Klien 8th: "My lap was ok and I made no mistakes. I ran with the same set-up I had used this morning and the car performed as I expected and the balance was quite good. But the track seemed to have less grip than in the morning. Overall, I am pleased with this performance. Now we must wait and see what we can do tomorrow. It's looking good!"

David Coulthard 14th: "I still was not too happy with the balance of the car and even before I started my flying lap, I ran a bit wide at the last corner. I also had a problem with my shift in that I was not getting the light to tell me when to change gear. So it wasn't the best of sessions, but I am not going to let that bother me as there's a long season ahead. We had four free practice sessions building up to this afternoon, so now we must try and improve in final qualifying."

In my next post I will talk about the comments of McLaren drivers Pedro de la Rosa who finished 9th and Kimi Raikkonen who finished 7th.

Bahrain Qualifying

Session 1 of the Qualifying stage for the Bahrain Gran Prix was completed today. The current leader, Fernando Alfonso finished in first place, while struggling Michael Schumacher finished qualifying in 3rd. Reubens Barrichello, who appeared to begin the season strong, got the 15th spot.

Red Bull in Search of Americans

According to GPlasource.com, Red Bull the Formula 1 team is in search of American drivers that will potentially become Champion. In their extended article they wrote:

The Red Bull Driver Search is an American based program aimed at finding the next American Formula One World Champion and ultimately building an all American Formula One team.

Racers who make it through the driver search will become a member of the Red Bull Junior Team.

This program will groom the drivers in either America of Europe with the intention of them finally making it into Formula One.

Now in it’s fourth year the program has already had some rewards with American drivers having success in Europe and Scott Speed even testing for the Red Bull Racing Formula One team.

During the month of April karting centers all across America will scout young drivers between the age of 13 and 17 in a series of events known as ‘Open Qualifying’. Anyone who aspires to be a professional racing driver can enter.

The three fastest drivers from each center will then progress to the run offs that will be held in July and August in events held by Red Bull. The drivers will compete in identical Rotax powered karts.

I'd say its a huge opportunity for teens as young as 13 years old to participate in something like this.

Im sure Red Bull Racing will have a talented team in the next 5 years, America has a population of over 200 Million people, I'm sure just one of them is as good as Michael Schumacher or Fernando Alfonso.

Schumacher, Barrichello, Thumbs Up !!

After both Leading drivers of Ferrari tested the new F2005 Ferrari Formula 1 car, both apparently gave the thumbs up. In fact, they liked it so much that next week in the Bahrain Grand Prix, Michael Schumacher, and Rubens Barrichello wont be driving the F2004, you will be seeing them in the new F2005.

Guardian Unlimited Sports wrote:

It was originally intended that the Ferrari F2005's debut would be at the Spanish grand prix in Barcelona on May 8 but the surprising lack of form displayed by the old car saw the team redoubling its efforts to bring the F2005 in earlier after intensive testing at the Mugello track in Italy.

The full article can be seen at:
http://sport.guardian.co.uk/formulaone/story/0,10069,1445423,00.html

Both Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello have retired from 1 of the first 2 races, so i think botth will finish strong at the Bahrain Grand Prix next week, maybe even the famous '1-2' Schumacher, Barrichello finish like in the past years.

Ferrari Exclusive

The 2005 Ferrari Formula 1 team, similar to a lot of the past years, is having trouble in the start of the new season. Today, Ferrari locked up a deal with Silverstone that would make their tests in June exclusive to the Ferrari team.

ThePrancingHorse.co.uk wrote in their article today:

Ferrari who yesterday decided to press their new car into action early for next week's Bahrain Grand Prix, have reserved Silverstone for exclusive testing on the last four dates available.

The four-day test from June 21-24 will be exclusive to Ferrari although this will upset the other seven key rivals who signed a pact not to use Silverstone in the month leading up to the British GP on July 10.

Ferrari F2005 Testing..

Ferrari are off to a tough start but the new Ferrari F2005 was tested today by Rubens Barrichello and he told reporters that the car was good.

Heres what Noticias.info had to write:

The Brazilian completed 95 laps in total and said he was happy with the car. "Days like these always give you a nice feeling when you drive a new car for the first time, especially when it’s a Ferrari. First impressions count and I am very happy with how it felt to drive the F2005. It is definitely quicker than the F2004 M and represents a step forward in every area.”

Michael Schumacher will drive the car tomorrow

Like I was saying from day one.. I hope and I still think the Ferrari team bounce back and finish strong.

Fisichella victorious in Australia

In the season opening Formula 1 event of 2005, Giancarlo Fisichella was victorious receiving a well deserved 10 points. The Renault team not only had the Italian veteran finish in the top six, but teammate Fernando Alfonso climbed from 13th to finish the event at 3rd place.

Michael Schumacher, the champion last year failed to finish the event when he collided with Nick Heidfeld. Ferrari still got some points as Reubens Barrichello finished in 2nd place getting 8 points for the Ferrari team in the Constructor Class. Renault is in first with 16 points.

“I enjoyed every second of the race. The other teams have obviously made a step forward, but I must congratulate our team on producing a good car and the tyres held on very well – they could have done another race"... "There are some new guys out there who were occasionally in the way, so I guess we need to give them time to get the F1 habit. We proved today that this car is still competitive, even though the new one will be faster.”

Reubens Barichello told reporters after the race in a press conference.
quoted from his official webiste, http://www.barrichello.com.br

I think Michael Schumacher will bounce back and have a big season and Reubens Barichello will finish strong again like every other year and Ferrari will win the Constructor’s Class again. That’s just what I think but I have a tendency to wrong most of the time.
