06 Eclipse

The New 06 Eclipse by Mitsubishi will return to 2006 with a new total makeover. The body is redesigned from the nose to the tail. The 06 Eclipse dates back to 1990, the 90 eclipse was a powerful sports coupe for its time and continued to be successful in its first generation until 1995. In 1995, Mitsubishi’s 95 Eclipse saw a redesign but the performance remained the same until the new millennium. The ’00 Eclipse was more distinguished but the performance of the car downgraded even a bit. The ’00 Eclipse however was the generally further famed then other Eclipses when it was featured in the street racing movie, The Fast and the Furious.

The newest generation of the Eclipse almost used Ford’s approach to their mustang, Mitsubishi returned to their second generation designed exterior. Under the hood however isn’t like it was in 1995. The new 06 Eclipse sports a V6 engine that rates at about 265 horsepower at 5750 rpm. The 06 Eclipse brings 260 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm additionally.

With the exception of the additional handling, the Eclipse got bigger and longer. The 06 Eclipse weights about 3500 pounds now and both the chassis and the wheelbase got longer by 0.8” and 2.4” respectively. This though leaves more room for individuals in the interior; therefore it is better and also not as good as previous models.

The 06 Eclipse is said to be a smoother ride then the RX8 but 60 percent of its weight is in the front however therefore don’t expect a better handling car then Volkswagens or a faster ride then the Mustang or even close to it.

Hummer H3 - Just the RIGHT size!

The new Hummer H3 is the newest SUV delivered by the GM (General Motors) Company. It is made in a factory in Shreveport, Louisiana. This model is the smallest model of all Hummers made, and it is more common to a SUV compared to the Hummer H2 especially, which is more similar to a truck. The Hummer H3 was first designed to be like the Hummer H2 but then became more like an conventional SUV. But the Hummer H3 isnt a unique design on its own, its still based on a few vehicles. It can be compared to some pickup trucks such as the Chevrolet Colorado.

The Hummer H3 has a naturally-aspired 3,5 Liter engine. The somewhat powerful engine produces 220 horsepower at 5600 rotations per minute. at half of that, 2800 rpm will get you 225 ft-lb of torque. All this is reached from the 20-valve DOHC unit. The H3 comes with two choices of transmissions for consumers. Buyers can choose from the 4 speed automatic or if they prefer to drive standard, they can get a 5 speed manual transmission. The Hummer H3 is a heavy fella too, over 8500 pounds.

The miles per gallon on the Hummer H3 isnt your best friend either. It only drives 16 miles per gallon in the city and it doesnt get much better on the highway, only 19 miles per gallon on the highway. When in flooding or even wet situations, the Hummer H3 does handle a lot of water however. It can handle 24 inches of water, even alot more then its 'brother' the H2, who can only handle 16 inches.
In Canada and the United States, the all new Hummer H3 will go for about $30,000 USD base price. The price of might go for over $40,000 USD.

Mercury Cougar in 1967, The Beginning.

Mercury joined the musclecar club in 1967 with the release of what now is known as the famous Mercury Cougar. The release of the Cougar was based on the model of the Ford Mustang, this however was more like a stretched out Mustang. In the early stages of the Cougar, there was only 1 model available. It included all the same features in any model chosen but varied from what type of hardtop and how much more of horsepower the engine had. However, there were some packages available to consumers. Two trim packages, the XR-7 and the GT package. The XR-7 package added a wood-rimmed steering wheel, a walnut coloured dash, overhead console, and a nice comfortable leather T-Handle transmission nob. The GT package was more for buyers looking for a better performing car. It had bigger shocks, anti roll car and power front disc brakes. It also included a firmer suspension. The GT package included a standard 390 cid V8 engine bringing power of 335 horsepower. Choices were offered for transmiss as well. Choices included three or four speed synchro gearboxes, or three-speed merco matic gearbox. It had manual shifting capabilities.

A total of six engines were used in the various 1967 Mercury Cougars. The 289 cid V8 engines brought horsepower from 195 to 225 bhp respectively. The even more powerful 390 cid brought even more horsepower. There were 280 bhp, 320 bhp and 335 bhp, all at 3200 rpm. The 390 CID V8 engine that had 335 horsepower performance was amazing as well. It went from 0 – 60 in 8.1 seconds, and a quarter mile in 16 seconds.

Mercury produced about 115,000 2D Hardtops, 7,000 GT 2D Hardtops, and suprisingly only 27,000 XR-7 2D Hardtop.

Cadillac STS, 3 POWERFUL engines to choose from

The emperor of the car world, Cadillac has created the all new STS. After a long awaited arrival of the new re-designed Caddy, the team at Cadillac did not disappoint, this car has everything you wanted. Depending on your budget and how much you want to spend, the STS (Seville Touring Sedan) has oodles of choices that is up to you to decide. Thee STS features three powerful engines for you to choose from. The first and 'cheapest' option gives you a standard 3.6 Litre V6 engine that brings 255 horsepower at 6500 rpm. The second and most popular option gives you a powerful 4.6 Litre V8 engine delivering lots of horsepower, 320 with 6400 rpm. The last option is a little more costly, but will give you a all-wheel-drive V8 engine with of course more horsepower and with heavy load options. Most buyers choose the second option, for those looking for luxury, the first option with more interior options is usually popular as well. With the V8 engine, the STS can accelerate from 0 – 60 in 6 seconds.

The only con to the Cadillac STS is probably the Fuel Composition. The tank is only 17 gallons but it doesnt last long in the city nor the driving. It lasts 16 miles per gallon in the city and only 22 miles per gallon on the highway. Reviews have said that handling the STS is done at ease, 86 grams for the 300-ft-dia skidpad. Braking is good as well, less then 120 feet to brake from 60 mph to a dead stop.

The car can be pricey as well though, if you want a good Cadillac STS with decent options, your looking at a good $60,000 USD, at least.

Panoz Esperante + the GTLM Coupe

The Panoz Esperante is an American car that you dont see everyday. Almost everything is hand assembled. Its got an amazing, unique look with a hand assembled lightweight SPF aluminum body. The Chassis of the Esperante is a modular extruded aluminium chassis, with it bolted and bonded to steel subframes. The Panoz Esperante is equipped with a 4.6L V8 engine that brings 320 horsepower at 6,000 rpm.

The mileage that the Esperante can make probably isnt what you expected from it. It can last for up to 17 miles per gallon in the city and about 25 miles when driving on the highway.

The next step in this model, the Panoz Esperante GTLM Coupe has a standard 4.6 Litre V8 engine but brings 420 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. The tranmission is a 5 speed manual transmission with overdrive. The GTLM Coupe achieves just a bit less then the Esperante, 16 miles per gallon in the city and 22 miles per gallon on the highway.

Dodge Ram, Viper Powered.

Take the powerful 500 horsepower Dodge Viper SRT-10 and then take the Dodge Ram. How can you compare the two? Take the Viper engine and put it into the Ram. Now you got a Dodge SRT-10. What does this mean? The most powerful pickup truck in the world. This things got power and speed. It can do 0 – 60 in 5 seconds and can go upto 150 miles per hour. Its got an amazing 500 horsepower, meaning over 525lb-ft of torque!

Its base price is just over $22,000 but if you want that powerful Viper V10 engine, your going to DOUBLE that price resulting in a final price of $45,000 before tax. The 'upgrade' is worth every single penny though, it has everything. Six main bearing crankshaft with increased stroke length and cross-bolted main bearing caps, redesigned semi-permanent aluminum cylinder heads, improved intake port, exhaust port and combustion chamber cooling. A stoke Dodge Ram couldn't handle this engine, so of course a brand new Heavy Duty cooling system is modiefied to handle it. It includes a custom dual exhaust system, which is mounted to a new exhaust manifold.

Dont get confused either, the SRT-10 has all the standard feautures that a truck should have, its not just a box with a powerful engine inside. Anything from ABS Braking system to the power sunroof are still available. I can guarantee you wont be disappointed in this ''pickup truck''.

The All New Ford Freestar

The all new Ford Freestar will be the new minivan in town, replacing the previous Windstar. Although, it is known to be new and different as most people would think, it is only a newer Windstar. It is actually renamed to Freestar to match Ford's new trend attempting to rename all their vehicles to start with the letter F. The 'all new' Ford Freestar will be a four door, seven passenger van available in five models, from the Freestar S to the Freestar Limited. It will have an automatic transmission with the option of two V6 gasoline powered engines.

Freestar S will have a 3.9L V6 engine that will have 193 horsepower. It will last for 18 miles per gallon in the city with a 5 liter jump per gallon on the highway bringing the highway miles per gallon to 23. The Ford Freestar Limited model will have similar features but with a bigger 4.2L V6 engine with more then 200 horsepower at 4,250 rpm's. The S will have 240 lb-ft of torque while the bigger Freestar engine will have more then 263lb-ft of torque.

As of late, the sales of the 'all new' Ford Freestar have not been a success. The 'Ford Fairline', a three rowed sport wagon may replace the Freestar in 2-3 years. If Ford decides to do that, then it will be 'all new', thi

Hybrid Engines, how effective can they be?

The hybrid serious, its growing more and more, not that long ago, only a few existed, now they are growing more rapid then ever. Hybrids are now getting more and more popular

Now if you compare the Toyota Prius Hybrid, and the GMC Sierra Hybrid, most people would wonder how can both of these have the same miles per gallon, the simple answer is no, they dont. All hybrids run on electrical power, as well as conventional combustion engines added. The extent to which the electric power helps out the gasoline determines the level of the hybrid. There are three levels of hybrids:

Full Hybrid vehicles can be run completely on batteries when operating on lower speeds, it can also help out the engine so not as much gasoline is needed. The Toyota Prius' hybrid would fall into this category.

A less electric powered hybrids would be the Honda Civic Hybrid and the Honda Insight. The hybrid level. The engine can be shut down completely, but most of the time only when it is idle. It is not as effective as the Full Hybrid vehicles.

Then of course there is the mild-hybrid vehicles. The Chevy Silverado Hybrid and the GMC Sierra hybrid would fall into this category. Really, you still save gasoline but not by a lot, the hybrid only helps these vehicles when its stopped and at very low speeds.

I would recommend picking up the first two levels of hybrids, but I dont think the mild-hybrid is worth the extra cash on the Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra 1500 Hybrid.

All new Pontiac G6 Coupe

The ever so famous Pontiac Grand Am is no more, it is now replaced by the All new Pontiac G6. If you dont know what exactly “G6” is, it means its the sixth generation of the Pontiac Grand Am all the way from the classic years of the 1970's, 1974 to be exact. It went from a large vehicle to the small, sporty all new G6. When it was first released, over 200 people received this car free of charge in a Oprah season opener. Pontiac has done a great job on this car, you can see it anywhere, its probably one of the most advertised cars right now.

The All new Pontiac G6 Coupe is powered by a 3.5L V6 engine with 201 horsepower. The standard features in the all new Pontiac G6 coupe also include 4-wheel antilock brakes with Full Function Traction Control, 17 inch cast aluminum wheels, automatic transmission with manual shift mode, a controlling sports suspension and a sweet 8 speaker monsoon sound system just to mention a few. You also have the options of getting pretty much anything you want for this car, from interior to exterior for when you buy a new Pontiac G6.

Enough is Enough.

The Ford Shelby GT500, the Pontiac GTO, the Dodge Charger ... all these cars are being rebuilt.. and all i have to say to myself is WHY...

These cars were legends by themselves before last year, now its all changed.. everyone I know looks at everyone of these cars in a different way.

I hope these are the only cars that are being re-designed.. car companies have to stop reintroducing old models and ruining their image. If the Shelby Cobra is EVER redesigned, reintroduced, re-ANYTHING... I wont be a happy guy.. its one of the only old school cars that remain with a solid image.

Don't get me wrong either, out of the three old school cars.. the Ford Shelby GT500 looks actually pretty good... but when I see the new Pontiac GTO and the redesigned Dodge Charger, I feel like crying and screaming at the same time.

Ok, so you think im dumb... they already rebuilt the Shelby Cobra.. but I am talking about the straight up Cobra.. they reintroduced the Eleanor, the GT500. Even that makes me mad.

Corvette C6

2005 Corvette C6 is a beast. Marking the sixth generation of its legacy, the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette delivers more power, passion and precision to reach a new standard of performance car excellence. (from GM Press Release on SeriosWheels.com)

Even though i still think the early generation Corvettes are still the best, this new Corvette C6 is a big improvement from past years. Its basiclly redesigned.

That was last year .. now the 2006 Chevrolet Corvell C6 Z06 is coming:

The new Z06 achieves 500 horsepower in an approximately 3130-pound (1419.7 kg) package and is expected to deliver 0-60 performance of less than 4 seconds, eclipse the quarter-mile in less than 12 seconds and deliver a top speed of more than 190 mph on a race track.

Nothing to be said except WOW..

The all-new LS7 of the '06 Z06 reintroduces the 427-cubic-inch engine to the Corvette lineup. Unlike the previous 427 engine, which was a big-block design, the new 7.0-liter LS7 is a small-block V-8 - the largest-displacement small-block ever produced by GM and a tribute to its 50 years as a performance icon.

With 500 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque, it also is the most powerful passenger car engine ever produced by Chevrolet and GM. The LS7 is easily identified under the hood by red engine covers with black lettering.

The LS7 shares the same basic Gen IV V-8 architecture as the Corvette's 6.0-liter LS2, but the LS7 uses a different cylinder block casting with pressed-in steel cylinder liners to accommodate the engine's wide, 104.8-mm-wide cylinder bores; the LS2 has 101.6-mm bores. And when compared to the LS2, the LS7 also has a different front cover, oil pan, exhaust manifolds and cylinder heads.

(All from exoticcarsite.com)

Also according to the same source, top speed will be at around 190 MPH and the Curb Weight will be 3130 LBS.

Has your views on the Chevrolet C6 changed now? mine has.

GT500 .. GT500 .. GT500 !!

I'm speechless, Shelby is bringing back the GT500 for the first time in over 30 years. The GT500 hasent been made since 1970, and it still beats some of the Ferrari's and Lamborghini's made TODAY. The 2006 Ford Shelby GT500 will be amazing.. and if there is a 2007 GT500 or even something like a 2008 GT500.. cars will never be the same again.

CarandDriver wrote:

A supercharged DOHC 5.4-liter V-8 with at least 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, similar to the 550-hp engine that powers the Ford GT, will likely rumble menacingly under the hood of the Shelby. Coupled with that engine will be a six-speed manual transmission. Unlike the previous-generation Mustang Cobra, the new Shelby will not get an independent rear suspension. Instead, the solid rear axle from regular-duty Mustangs gets tweaked and tuned by SVT. Changes to the suspension include new springs, dampers, and anti-roll bars designed to make the most of the larger, wider 19-inch wheels and tires. Slowing the Shelby GT500 will be 14-inch front brakes and 13-inch rear brakes by Brembo.

And again according to them, its going to be starting under $40,000.. there will be lots of these around very soon.

This article at AutoBlog.com features some amazing pictures of the GT500 .. the Ford Shelby GT500. All you can do right now is stare.

Chrysler Firepower

Chrysler revealed their new sports car, similar to the Dodge Viper at the Detroit Auto Show. CanadianDriver.com wrote:

Chrysler unveiled a luxury sports car concept based on the Viper chassis today. The rear-drive Chrysler Firepower features a high-performance 6.1 litre Hemi V8 engine and a five-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick manual shifting capability. The Chrysler Group estimates the Firepower has a 0 to 100 kilometres per hour time of less than 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 282 km/h.

Computational Fluid Dynamics modeling was used to shape the Firepower's body with aerodynamics in mind: proper engine cooling as well as down force in the rear were taken into consideration.

Pretty genious idea by Chrysler I think. Chrysler has never had a powerful sports car such as the Viper in their large family of cars.

I like the exterior of the vehicle very much but this time the interior doesnt get my vote. I think they shouldn't have made with a classic interior look, the new Chrysler Firepower should have a 21st century interior.

Overall, I saw this coming one day, and I think Chrysler needed to create a car with this power and look.

Mazda Reveals new Miata in New York

At the New York International Auto Show, Mazda revealed there new 2006 Mazda Miata, no longer called the Miata, just simply the MX-5.

VWVortex.com had an article on the New York International Auto Show, and in the portion of the article on the new Mazda MX-5, they said:

Compared to the last Miata, the MX-5 is bigger, stiffer, faster, and styled much more aggressively. Drivers over 5’10” now have a fighting chance of fitting comfortably in the cockpit, but the over all Miata mission statement still seems intact. Only time, and a good long test drive, will tell if Mazda has not messed too much with their good thing.

Bigger, stiffer, faster, sure ... styled much more aggressively, NO. The Mazda Miata.. oops i mean Mazda MX-5 looks exactly the same as in previous years. Just look at the pictures with your own eyes and you will agree.Interior of the vehicle has improved I must admit, I just think the exterior is the same.

As I said before, I do agree with VWVortex that it is bigger, stiffer and faster. CanadianDriver.com wrote an article on the new Mazda as well:

The MX-5 Miata gains 65 mm in wheelbase, 20 mm in length, 40 mm in width, and 20 mm in height. The longer wheelbase now permits taller occupants the kind of legroom they've wanted since 1989, and the increased width allows for side airbags if specified. The bigger wheel arches are ready for optional 17-inch wheels.

Power is up, too. The new 2.0-litre engine is rated at around 160 hp (final North American specifications have not yet been announced), and balance will be improved by moving the engine 135 mm rearward to create 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution.

A newly developed six-speed manual transmission will be available, along with the standard five-speed manual. An available six-speed automatic transmission can be manually controlled by the shift lever and by steering wheel-mounted paddles.

I think that says enough that the Mazda HAS changed in that category. But I still think the exterior looks the same and needs to be changed.

Mazda improved a lot with the new model, hopefully next year they will totally redesign the exterior and maybe I will put this car on my good side.

Best sellers of 2005

2005 is now in full gear especially in the car market with popular new models designed by various companies. Such events like the 2005 Detroit Auto Show. The re-designed 2005 Mustang and the 2005 Pontiac GTO (Gran Turismo Omologato).

Believe it or not, the Chrysler 300C is the #1 seller so far according to Yahoo! Finances. Heres what Yahoo had to say:

In December, dealers sold a whopping 13,525 units, which accounted for 15 percent of all full-size cars sold in the United States, according to Jesse Toprak, director of pricing and market analysis for Edmunds.com, a Santa Monica, Calif.-based auto price tracking service.

What's more, the 300's "days to turn" -- industry lingo for the amount of time a car spends at the dealer until it's sold -- was a very brisk 22 days. The industry average for all cars is 66 days.

The 300 is Motor Trend magazine's "Car of the Year." Angus MacKenzie, editor-in-chief of Motor Trend, says, "The Chrysler 300 is an extremely compelling combination of power, responsiveness, room and refinement -- a home run on significance, a slam dunk on value and clearly superior to its rivals in every way."

Lauren Fix, automotive author and expert on the Do-It-Yourself Network (DIY), agrees. "The 300 is an exciting new entry," she says. "It's bringing back the great American Sedan."

With an MSRP that starts at $23,370 for the base model, and $34,420 for the top-of-the-line all-wheel-drive Touring Sedan, experts say the 300 could help Chrysler gain market share on GM and Ford.

As stated in the article, the Dodge Magnum, the Honda Accord Hybrid, and the Cadillac STS are the other top car sellers of 2005.

Ford Shelby Mustang GT500

Questionably the finest car ever created by mankind, the Ford Shelby Mustang GT500. This car was featured in many movies such as the popular ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’ that featured Nicholas Page and Angelina Jolie. The 1967 model had a powerful V8 and four-speed manual transmission. It had 365 horsepower at 5400 revolutions per minute and 420 lb-feet of torque at 3200 revolutions per minute.

Unlike the Pontiac GTO this car shouldn’t and can’t be re-created.

March 08, 2005

The Gran Turismo Omologato is back, the Pontiac GTO!

From mid 300 horsepower, from about 300 lb-ft torque, the new Pontiac GTO is back and better than ever! One finest muscle cars of the 60’s is back with a totally new, re-designed look. Pontiac has brought back the famous GTO.

The car has 400 horsepower at 5200 revolutions per minute and 400 lb-ft of torque at 4000 revolutions per minute. It has an 8 cylinder engine, and has the classic 4 speed automatic transmission.

The GTO has an amazing story; it wasn’t even supposed to be existent in humanity, Pontiac’s plan was to make only cars that were like others, nothing that had any performance higher than any other. Pontiac wasn’t selling enough cars so they created the GTO, the Gran Turismo Omologato.
